Personal Care Assistant – SEND Pupils (NG3)

Job Purpose

Monarch Education is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Personal Care Assistant to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within specialist educational settings. The successful candidate will provide high-quality personal care and learning support, helping pupils to access education, develop independence, and achieve their full potential in a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment.

This role is ideal for individuals with experience in care, support work, healthcare, SEND education, or residential settings who are passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of children and young people with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide personal care support, including assisting with toileting, changing, feeding, and personal hygiene where required.
• Support pupils with a range of SEND needs, including autism, physical disabilities, communication difficulties, learning disabilities, and complex needs.
• Assist pupils in accessing learning activities both inside and outside of the classroom.
• Promote pupils’ independence, dignity, wellbeing, and emotional development at all times.
• Build positive and professional relationships with pupils, staff, parents, and carers.
• Support the implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual support plans.
• Encourage communication, social interaction, and engagement with learning.
• Monitor and report on pupil progress, wellbeing, and any safeguarding concerns.
• Assist with mobility support and the use of specialist equipment where necessary.
• Support pupils during breaktimes, lunchtimes, educational visits, and enrichment activities.
• Follow safeguarding, health and safety, moving and handling, and school policies at all times.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND professionals, therapists, and other support staff to meet the individual needs of pupils.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

• Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals in a care, education, healthcare, or support setting.
• Understanding of personal care responsibilities and the importance of preserving dignity and respect.
• Caring, patient, and empathetic nature.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond appropriately to challenging situations.
• A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• Right to work in the UK.

Desirable Criteria

• Previous experience providing personal care within a SEND school, specialist provision, care, or healthcare environment.
• Experience supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or complex needs.
• Moving and Handling training.
• First Aid qualification.
• Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and SEND practices.
• Relevant care, health, childcare, or education qualification.
• Experience working with EHCPs and personalised support plans.
