Monarch Education is working with a primary school in Saltley to recruit an English Lead. This is a full-time role combining class teaching with responsibility for leading English across the school.

The successful candidate will take ownership of English, including reading, writing and phonics, while also fulfilling the role of a primary class teacher.

Key Responsibilities – English Lead

  • Lead the delivery of English across the school, including reading, writing and phonics
  • Oversee curriculum planning to ensure clear progression across all year groups
  • Monitor the quality of teaching through observations, book scrutiny and learning walks
  • Analyse assessment data to track pupil progress and identify areas for improvement
  • Put interventions in place to support pupils not meeting expected standards
  • Support and guide staff to improve teaching practice in English
  • Lead staff training and share good practice
  • Ensure consistency in assessment, moderation and reporting
  • Develop and review English policies and action plans
  • Manage subject resources and support wider school improvement priorities

Key Responsibilities – Class Teacher

  • Plan and deliver lessons in line with the national curriculum
  • Create a structured and engaging classroom environment
  • Adapt teaching to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND
  • Assess, record and report on pupil progress
  • Maintain behaviour in line with school policy
  • Work with other staff and parents to support pupil development
  • Take part in meetings, training and wider school activities

Requirements

  • Must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching in a UK primary school
  • Strong knowledge of the primary English curriculum, including phonics
  • Experience leading a subject or supporting staff development
  • Able to use data to inform teaching and track progress
